THE TOWN OF BADANTE WOMEN

The Bulgarian town of Varshets is a town without women. The men look after the children, cook, do the washing and… wait for money from their wives, who work abroad. Many of the women work as "badante“ in Italy, taking care of sick or elderly. The social structure of Varshetz is changing and these transformations, dramatic or funny, are witnessed everywhere: in the pubs, in the families, within the brass band and at the bus station, when the women come back home once a year for a holiday.

THE KIDNAPPING

A famous writer created a feature film script - a story of an orphan who coincidentally goes to prison. When the real man comes out of prison he damands retribution from the writer - can one steal someone else’s identity, life or mind? The man forces the writer into the underground world. The two of them have been involved in crime thriller with an unfamiliar russian girl pursued by a criminal gang. After the kidnapping of the girl the film sets off in an unexpected direction and nobody remains the same.

MEETING JIRECEK

There is a cliche used to describe the Czech historian Konstantine Jirecek: Friend of Bulgaria. This film tells about a man and a scientist of more complex attitudes towards the Bulgarians. His observations are valid even today. Some of them are quite negative. And yet that is what true friends are for, they are the ones we need to meet more often.

THE GLASS RIVER

After the death of her father the young French woman - Helene Thibault arrives in the Bulgarian village of Gradishte, led by the traces left by the mysterious founder of their family Robert Bugr, a renowned Cathar and Bogomil. All that he has left behind is a parchment filled with drawings of incomprehensible signs and letters. It is up to Helene to decipher his message for his grandchildren and the posterity.

CHILDREN OF DRUJBA

A 7-year-old girl from Vietnam and a 15-year-old boy from Beirut are the Bulgarian symbols of the Communist internationalism in full play. These are "children of drujba“, born in countries struggling for their independence and socialism, nurtured and brought up in socialist Bulgaria. With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of socialism, these "children“ have been forced to grow up quickly and decide whether to return to their native countries or to be lifetime emigrants.

THEODORA: THE TEMPTATION TO BE ALIVE

Theodora Zakharieva committed herself to a social cause and broke through the health system, winning a case against the Healthcare Ministry for compensations for retermitted treatment. She went on a hunger strike and staged protest rallies at the Ministry of Healthcare and the Council of Ministers, due to the lack of medication for oncology patients. Prior to the hunger strike, she was offered personal medication so that to give up the idea to go on a strike, but she rejected the offer, stating that her protest was for the sake of all the patients. The documentary shows the dramatic conflict through Theodora’s experiences.
