Poised on the Danube River in northern Bulgaria, the town of Belene suffers from an identity crisis. Between 1949 and 1959, a nearby island was the notorious major Communist forced-labour camp. Currently Belene is twenty-five years structing another project that, if actually finished, promises to be an economic boon: the country's second nuclear power plant. Andrey Paounov's bizarre, tragicomic documentary about the dark past that haunts this sleepy, mosquito-plagued community.

Two very similar families are trying to get along living in a new neighborhood being built near a complex of prefab apartment blocks. At first the two couples like each other, but their fondness slowly grows into hatred. One of the reasons for this is their desire to be different from each other – but the more they try to differ from their neighbors, the more they become identical both psychologically and physically. This is because they share an identical concept of "being different." Their mutual irritation turns to full-on hatred and they make an attempt at mutual destruction. Their homes, which are set on fire, are not the only damages caused by these attempts: the wife of one of the families and the husband of the other also fall victims in the war. As they sit watching the smoking ruins of their homes, the surviving man and woman quickly discover that they were made for each other.

The film is based on traditional folk nursing rhymes and tales from all over the world. A little boy scribbles on a piece of paper letters, numbers and drawings. He is bored. An old parrot comes out of the blue and tells him stories and rhymes from across the world.

Made in commemoration of the 130th anniversary since the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78, the documentary features the memorials and monuments erected by the Russian Empire in Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Varna, Silistra, Stara Zagora, Sofia and the village of Shipka. Of them, the most popular are these in Sofia: in the Doctor’s Garden and Ruski Pamentnik (Russian Monument).
