Voevoda tops the local chart in its’ first weekend
Promising start of the year for domestic productions. The BNFC supported long-awaited production Voevoda by Zornitsa Sophia Popgantcheva topped its first weekend’s chart with 14 000 viewers. The admission in the first week reached 40 000 viewers altogether.
The same trend applies to the last film year: 2016 marked double increase in admission for domestic films compared with the 2015 – 177 647 against 94 804 viewers. 25 Bulgarian films were distributed in 2016 with a total BO of 1, 2 M BGN. The most successful domestic film in 2016 was Mihaela Komitova’s debut 11th A Grade, followed by Ivailo Hristov’s Losers, Ivaylo Penchev’s Holiday Makers, Dimiter Kotzev’s Monkey and Svetla Tsitsorkova’s feature debut Thirst. All of the top five productions received financial support via the Bulgarian National Film Center.
