The Elephant Cow in the Zoo suffers from sore toes and cannot sleep a wink. She listens to the sounds around and buries herself into the old newspapers stacked in her enclosure. She starts reading them and thinking about her own life and about the stories of the humans and animals around her. From the newspapers she learns that animals can also be adopted and contemplates applying for adoption.
But it so happens that a Jackal cub sneaks out of his cage. While everybody is looking for him, he finds refuge with the sick Elephant Cow. Who is going to adopt whom?
