An European Film Agency Directors (EFADs) The Working Group deliberates the key aspects of the Brexit question relating to the future cooperation in audiovision between the UK and Bulgaria during and after Brexit.
The EFADs have three Working Groups, dealing respectively with: cinema in the digital era, copyright and fight against piracy and film education. They meet on a regular basis in different countries and follow the main topics on the agenda.
Presently, the major issue is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union and its impact on the European audiovisual sector, and Jana Karaivanova, Director of the Bulgarian National Film Center shall join the discussions the for Bulgaria’s part. Among the topics tabled for discussion are the impact, challenges and chances for the European audiovisual sector during and after Brexit: Movement of people, goods and services between UK and EU; cinema communication; copyright and the European Convention on Cinematographic Coproduction.
A decision has to be made on the access for the UK to the Creative Europe membership. As for the International Coproduction Treaty alignments, the specific point here is in that the UK international treaties will still refer to UK and other EU persons, goods and services but other EU/third party treaties will not include UK elements after the UK leaves the EU.
Given Bulgaria’s fast-growing film industry and the increasing number of Bulgarian films on the world markets, the participation of a Bulgarian representative in the Brexit Working Group is vital to the development of Bulgarian film and distribution within and outside the European Union.
