After a contest carried out by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria on 25th of October Jana Karaivanova was elected for the position of the Executive Director of the Bulgarian National Film Center. She replaces the previous acting director Kamen Balkanski.
Jana Ivanova Karaivanova is a Bulgarian actress and producer. She was born in Sofia on October 24, 1961. Her education includes a Master's degree from the Academy of Theater and Film in Sofia. From 1984 until 1997 Jana is one of the leading actresses of the National Theater of Bulgaria "Ivan Vazov" with more than 30 roles and award for Best Actress from the Theater society that is now-a-days known as IKAR and 22 feature films and award for best actress from the "Golden Rose" film festival. From 1997 until today she lives both in Sofia and in New York where she had started her career as producer. She is founder of the first Bulgarian film festival in New York and the first independent film festival in Sofia – Sofia Independent Film Festival. She had pioneered the cultural exchange between Bulgaria and the United States and through her work had brought the visibility and recognition of the Bulgarian film and filmmakers by screening more than 200 titles from the new Bulgarian Cinema in New York, San Francisco, Princeton, Boston and else. 1 She is a founder of the Foundation for Bulgarian-American cultural exchange and United Production.
