The BNFC supported Bulgarian animation The Travelling Country by Vessela Dancheva and Ivan Bogdanov recently won its’ seventh international award – Golden Prize in Shut Up! Competition at the Animated Dreams International Animation Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. Earlier this year the animation was prized at the World Festival of Animated Film in Varna and at the Animafest in Zagreb.
The authors consider their latest award as an authentic recognition, as the Estonian animation is well known for its traditions, continuity and integrity thus creating a high standing distinctive production. The Travelling Country is a visual story with no dialogue.
It is about the collision between the past, the present and the future. It is a fantasy story about the search for one’s true identity and freedom.
Meanwhile Blind Vaysha by Theodore Ushev based on the short story by the same name by Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov advanced in the 2016 Oscar race. The animation is shortlisted among 10 animated shorts for the 89-th edition of the Academy awards. Nominations will be announced on 24th of January 2017.
