The 57th edition of the Thessaloniki IFF will be held November 3-13, 2016. The Balkan Survey selection will show 3 Bulgarian films supported by the BNFC: Glory by Kristina Grozeva and Peter Valchanov, the minority co-production Dogs by Bogdan Mirica and the winner of the 2015 Golden Rose Award for short film, The Son by Hristo Simeonov.
TIFF’s new segment Out of Competition focuses on films by some of the most promising newcomers in today’s independent cinema. The program will screen the internationally prized Godless by Ralitza Petrova, winner of Golden Rose Award for best feature 2016.
Bulgarian projects The Father, directors and producers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov and Money for Funeral, director Magdalena Ilieva, Jonathan Heidelberger, production Martichka Bozhilova, were selected in the coproduction forum Crossroads.
The BNFC supported Bulgarian minority co-production King of the Belgians – Belgium, Nederlands, Bulgaria, will screen in the Open Horizons section.
At the 57th TIFF the platform South by Southeast will be launched, where representatives from the South and Southeast European Film Centers will discuss the collaboration possibilities and the co-production and distribution challenges in the area. The conclusions of the meeting will be presented at a panel discussion open to the public with the participation of film professionals and Mr. Anton Calleja from Eurimages Fund. The BNFC will be represented by Kamen Balkanski and Gergana Dakovska. The event is organized by the Greek Film Center, the Creative Europe MEDIA desk and SEE Cinema Network.
The 27th SEE Cinema Network session will also be held during the festival. The Father, directors and producers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov and The Pig, dir. Dragomir Sholev, prod. D. Sholev, Elena Mosholova, are the Bulgarian projects participating.
