The Father and Nina scooped Golden Roses
The two international juries gave the awards at Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival 2019, Varna

The Best Actor Award goes to Ivan Barnev and Ivan Savov (The Father)
‘For the original interpretation of their roles and the convincing interplay between them.’
The Best Actress Award goes to Irini Jambonas (Rounds)
‘For building a convincing emotional character.’
The Best Cinematographer Award goes to Vesselin Hristov for Sister ‘For an aesthetically brilliant visual concept.’’
The Best Screenwriter Award goes to Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov and Decho Taralezhkov for The Father
‘For an inventive drama and colourful characters.’
The Best Director Award goes to Drago Sholev for The Pig
‘For an artistic achievement and idiomatic style.’
The City of Varna Award goes to Rounds, director: Stephan Komandarev
‘For its special take on a social subject and proficient building of a collective character.’
The Special Award goes to The Pig, director: Drago Sholev;
‘For an ingenious and candid approach to an ethically sensitive subject.’
The Golden Rose Award for Best Feature Film goes to The Father, Co-production Bulgaria/Greece, producers: Abraxas Film – Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov, directors: Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov
‘For artistic maturity and achievements in making an accomplished work.’
The winner receives also Danny Lerner Award (€50,000 in services and €5,000 in cash) provided by Nu Boyana Film Studios.
At the 36th edition of Golden Rose Festival of Bulgarian Feature Film, awards were also given as follows:
The People’s Choice Award went to Rounds, dir. Stefan Komandarev.
The Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Award goes to Sestra, dir. Svetla Tsosorkova.
The Critics Guild Award (UBF) to feature film A Picture with Yuki, director: Lachezar Avramov and the short Insomnia, dir. Radoslav Kamburov.
The Bulgarian Association of Film Director’s Award for short film debut goes to Ivan, dir. Nadejda Hristova.
