Another Bulgarian film supported by the Bulgarian National Film Center was awarded at the Locarno International Film Festival.
Ilian Metev’s debut feature ¾ won Golden Leopard in the Filmmakers of the Present competition.
According to the official publication of the festival the film is: An intimate, quietly moving family portrait and triple character study, delivered with the same sensitivity Metev previously exhibited as a documentarian… and cements its young director as a strong emerging voice in European cinema, a talent to watch closely as his career, no doubt bolstered by the main prize of Concorso Cineasti del presente, is set to keep moving forward, towards new creative horizons. Horizons that, after the triumphant Locarno experience, look positively golden.
Last year Godless by Ralitza Petrova has been awarded the Golden Leopard in the International Competition and thereafter received dozens of awards and worldwide recognition.
¾ is co-produced with Germany, the script is written by Ilian Metev and Bettina Ip, and the main cast consists of three non-professional actors: Mila Mihova, Nickolay Mashalov and Todor Velchev.
¾ is selected for the competition of the Golden Rose Festival of Bulgarian Feature Film in Varna (29 September – 07 October 2017).
