The eagerly expected death, instead of rewarding his humiliating patience, suddenly stirs awake his sense of identity and his pride; while the false investigation, which has all the conclusive evidence to convict him, shows him the way to escape instead. Escape into absolute freedom, where moral principles are nothing but unnecessary attributes of a past age.

He lost everything that mattered to him – his wife, his work and the confidence of his son. To get Vasko back, Mityo has to face the past and pay for an old but still burning sin. In order to get his son back, Mityo has to seek forgiveness for his sin.
